Dynamic disk a physical disk that can be accessed only by Windows™ 2000 and XP. It is a Microsoft technology for realization of RAID technology. It is some kind of software RAID.
The basic type disk contains partitions, extended partitions, logical drivers, and an number of static volumes; the dynamic disk does not use partitions, but dynamically manages volumes and provides advanced storage options that makes it possible to have an unlimited number of logical drives. Another difference between basic and dynamic disks is there is no Master Boot Record (MBR) on a dynamic disk.
Windows™ supports five types of dynamic volumes: simple, spanned, striped, mirrored, and RAID-5. Drive Backup Server Edition works with all types of dynamic volumes.
